Mother Co., Plants is a beautifully curated plant shop nestled in the Hawthorne Neighborhood of Minneapolis. It is known for its wide variety of exotic plants and care supplies, design-forward home goods, and handmade pottery. What you should also know about Mother Co. is that it is home to a stunning and unique intimate wedding venue.
I had the joy of chatting with one of the owners of the shop, Mickey, about the shop and venue! Keep reading for a look into how to host your own wedding at Mother, Co. Minneapolis.
How did you come to own Mother, Co? What inspired you to own the shop?
Mickey: “After owning a small business for 11 years, we sold it in 2020 and Ben and I knew we wanted to have a small business again. Nothing we looked into really stuck. We worked “normal” jobs after selling our small business until we found out Mother Co., Plants was for sale! We are extreme plant lovers and have always loved the quality and variety of plants at Mother and the overall vibe. It was just the perfect fit and came together quickly!”
What do people who want to rent your event space need to know?
Mickey: “We are a very flexible! If you’re renting for a photoshoot, ceremony, yoga class, or anything, we are fortunate to be surrounded by big, beautiful plants and can add them throughout your event to make a huge impact!”
What is your favorite part of the space?
Mickey: “I love walking into the store – It always smells amazing and helps calm my hyper self!”
What would your dream wedding look like at Mother, Co.?
Mickey: “My dream wedding at Mother would be surprising the couple who’s getting married with space looking even better and more lush than they expect on their big day! We have so many beautiful things throughout the store and making it beautiful and easy for the couple would always be my goal.”
What are your hopes for the event space and Mother, Co. as a whole?
Mickey: “It’s always transforming. We have been focused on small, intimate workshops and photoshoot rentals, which has been so great and rewarding. We are just beginning to work with the city to get licensed to be able to host larger events! My hope is that it could be used for a plant workshop one day, a wedding the next day and a birthday party or baby shower the next day. The space is so open and easy to transform and I would love to host milestone events of all kinds!”
What is your favorite item you sell in the shop?
“Ben and I (slowly) drive the large and the more exotic cacti back from the southwest. We drive slow and baby them once we’re back. Although, I am actually sad to see them go, I also love that the person buying the cacti will be thrilled with it. So I would say the unusual cacti and our wasabi green pottery. It’s my favorite!”
